A keyframe stores a property’s value at a particular time. Libre calculates the values between keyframes. You can animate Position, Rotation, Scale, and Opacity independently. For a complete example, follow Your first animation.

Animate a property

To fade an object out:
  1. Select it and move the playhead to the start of the animation.
  2. Set Opacity to 100, then click its diamond to add the first keyframe.
  3. Move to a later time and set Opacity to 0. Libre adds another keyframe automatically.
  4. Drag the playhead between those times to check the fade.
Add the first keyframe before changing the property at another time. Without it, changing the value affects the whole animation.

Read and edit existing keys

A filled diamond means there is a keyframe at the current time. A hollow diamond means there is none at that time, even if the property has keyframes elsewhere. Change a value at an existing keyframe to update it. Change an animated property at another time to add a keyframe there.

Copy and paste keyframes

  1. Select keyframes on the timeline and press ⌘/Ctrl + C.
  2. Select the target layer and move the playhead to the paste time.
  3. Press ⌘/Ctrl + V.
When pasting into a different layer, copy from one source layer at a time. Unlock the target and use a compatible shape: groups cannot use every shape property, and animated points need matching path structure.
  • Keys exceed the timeline range: move the playhead earlier and paste again. The failed paste has not added keys. See Animation limits.
  • Some properties were skipped: compatible keys were pasted; preview the result.
  • Libre asks you to copy again: repeat the copy from the source layer, then paste.

Align keyframes

Select one keyframe on each track you want to align, then use: If another keyframe occupies that time on a track, move or remove it first. To stretch an animation, see Change timing.

Remove a key

Click the filled diamond at a keyframe’s time, or select keyframes on the timeline and press Delete or Backspace.

If the property does not change

Check that the track has different values at different times, within the animation duration. If the track is muted, unmute it in the timeline. For timing, easing, and loops, see Timeline. To animate one shape into another, see Morph shapes.
