Group objects to move, scale, or rotate them together.

Create or remove a group

Select objects and press ⌘/Ctrl + G. To ungroup, select the group and press ⌘/Ctrl + Shift + G, or choose Ungroup from its context menu.

Edit something inside a group

With Select (V), double-click the artwork to select a layer inside its group. Repeat for nested groups. Double-clicking a vector shape enters vector edit mode. For a deeply nested layer, hold ⌘/Ctrl while clicking it, or expand its group in Layers and select the row. On the canvas, Enter selects a group’s immediate children; Shift + Enter selects the parent group.

Move artwork out of a group

Select the layer and choose Move out of group from its context menu. To move the whole group on the canvas, select the group’s row in Layers first.

Masks

  1. Select the mask shape and its content at the same level in Layers.
  2. Choose Use as Mask from the context menu. The top selected layer becomes the mask.
  3. Select the mask layer to adjust its controls in Properties.
A Path mask uses a closed vector outline. For an Alpha matte that includes the shape’s fill, stroke, or effects, put the shape in a group and use that group as the mask. Choose Release mask before moving the mask shape out, joining it to another shape, or ungrouping the mask group. Imported masks keep their original types.

Moving layers between groups

Unlock the source and destination groups. If the layer or either group has zero scale, restore its scale or choose another frame. You cannot move an image layer into an existing Boolean group. To combine images, use Boolean operations.

Boolean operations

Select two or more layers at the same level in Layers, then choose Boolean operation in Properties: Union, Subtract top shapes, Intersect, or Exclude overlap. For image layers, Libre uses their rectangular frames to create a mask for the result. Release existing masks before applying the operation.
